With strong values which are Diversity and Inclusion, Innovation, Philanthropy and Sustainability, Bloomberg has clearly become one the most relevant companies of today’s world.

Let’s see what Bloomberg could bring to your work life!

More about the company…..

Bloomberg, the global business and financial information and news leader, gives influential decision makers a critical edge by connecting them to a dynamic network of information, people and ideas. The company’s strength – delivering data, news and analytics through innovative technology, quickly and accurately – is at the core of the Bloomberg Terminal. Bloomberg’s enterprise solutions build on the company’s core strength: leveraging technology to allow customers to access, integrate, distribute and manage data and information across organizations more efficiently and effectively.

The company was founded in 1981, when Michael Bloomberg teamed up with Thomas Secunda, Duncan MacMillan, and Charles Zega to develop technology to bring transparency to the capital markets. The Terminal, the flagship product, quickly became embedded in the workflows of large financial institutions allowing them access to real-time information to drive business decisions. Since then, the products have evolved to become enterprise solutions, allowing clients to conduct their entire workflows on their suite of products.

As the company evolved, in the 1990’s it expanded to include news bureaus to break the market moving news accurately and promptly and now has journalists in 192 locations worldwide.

With a strong partnership with GFS and a collaboration with GEM through their terminals, Bloomberg offers its students the opportunity to work in their office in the Analytics and Data departments. Luckily for you, we summarised key elements of these positions to help you to be better prepared before meeting them on Thursday!

The Analytics Department

As part of the Financial Products team, the Analytics department help delivers the Terminal to front-line users. One of the key differentiators of Bloomberg, is the exceptional customer focus it has. They have built technology which allows all Bloomberg users to reach out to a representative with any questions, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

This department works directly with clients to understand their objectives and help them get the most out of the suite of products. On any given day they respond to over 12,000 queries in more than 15 languages, delivering answers that translate into real value. From educating a portfolio manager on Bloomberg’s risk management solutions to helping a

trader discover new sources of market liquidity – the variety of questions they answer – and problems they solve – is immense.

Following a successful period in Analytics, you would move to Sales. The world’s leading businesses and finance professionals rely on the Bloomberg products and services daily, and Sales create and cultivate relationships with them. They work directly with the clients to help them take full advantage of the Terminal and all other solutions, and work with the Product team to keep improving and expanding their offerings.

If you are a determined student and if you are interested in finance, Bloomberg’s Analytics department is made for you. So, let me explain what the you need to be successful:

As Bloomberg works directly with clients you must have a good people and communication skills. Moreover, you will be trusted with a portfolio of clients and will be able to work with a lot of autonomy through the entire sales process (from elaborating the sales strategy to closing the deals). As Bloomberg intents to be in constant evolution, departments aren’t separated and always work together. Thus, you will be in contact with other departments such as the product team for example.

Don’t worry if you don’t have much experience in this field, Bloomberg will support you throughout for you to have the best experience possible!

Positions in the data field

Since day one, Bloomberg has evolved billions of data points into relevant and actionable insights trusted by business and financial professionals around the world. The problem-solving data team is seeking individuals who have the ability to drive data into meaningful answers — and produce the algorithms and utilize technology to ensure the data is timely, accurate and complete.

The data team source, clean and process all the data that is on the terminal – using technology to enhance processes and improve efficiencies. Working across asset classes and industries, you will become an expert in your field. There are two roles available in this department; a Data Analyst which has a more technical focus and a Data Specialist which requires financial subject matter expertise. In order to be successful in this department you need to have a passion for data, technical aptitude and financial knowledge.

These are the two departments in which Bloomberg is actively recruiting, especially during the GEM fair on the 30th of January. However, do not hesitate to check their website for other opportunities in other departments and to have a more global view on this large company!
